Battles Worth Waging

iStock_000012678605XSmallMuch of the attention in the past 72 hours has focused on the successful U.S. covert operation against Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan and the repercussions of Bin Laden's death on U.S. and regional security in the near-term are still unclear; what is clear is that we didn't waver as a nation in our commitment to ensuring justice was done. And, the bottom line is, that while some battles are long and fought against seemingly overwhelming odds, they are worth waging and losing simply isn't an option.

In Mexico, at a time when the headlines are stark and the numbers killed or impacted by drug cartel-related violence is alarming, we continue to see unyielding resolve and an impressive commitment from President Calderón and his security team. There exists no doubt in my mind as to the need for a continued, strong, and vibrant partnership between the U.S. and Mexico on the security front. Here too, in Mexico, losing simply isn't an option.

A few days ago, JP Morgan released the 2011 edition of its Mexico 101 Handbook. Whether you're well versed in the country, its politics and economy or only now considering business or investment opportunities here, the handbook is an invaluable resource, and I wanted to share it with you.  You'll find the chapters on competitiveness and the economy useful, and both their sector-by-sector reviews and assessment of the challenges Mexico faces are quite insightful.

At White & Case and Vianovo, my colleagues and partners are optimistic about Mexico's future and stand ready to help you leverage opportunities, navigate cross-border complexities and guide you as you look to this country for investment or business expansion.

I hope you'll give me a call if I can be of assistance to you.   And, I hope we can continue a dialogue online via Twitter (@aogarza) and on Facebook (Facebook.com/AntonioOGarza).

Sincerely,
